George Strickland began his career in the field of commercial art, later
owned a successful design firm, then worked as an art consultant to a
large computer company. In 1989, he and his wife moved out west to
dedicate his time to painting.
Strickland has a unique approach to scene selection. When finding a
location to set-up, he looks for scenes that he can visualize in paint
strokes so as to enhance the qualities of contrast, color, patterns,
textures and shapes. “I believe some of the most beautiful paintings on
this earth are not just paintings of things, but more profoundly, a
statement about those things. So, I make the concept a big part of my
goal before my brush goes to work.”
His beautiful landscapes and seascapes are regularly featured in the
most distinguished invitational shows, and he has earned numerous
prestigious awards throughout his career including Gold and Silver
Medals and Artists’ Choice awards. Strickland is a Signature Member and
past president of the Plein Air Painters of America, a member of the
Northwest Rendezvous, and an “Out of State” member of the California Art
Club. |
